BONUS Activity - Summer Learning Journey - Musical Festivals - Matani

Day #4 activity #2 - Summer Learning Journey - Playing Games

Image result for ki o rahi

Today for this Summer Learning Journey activity I used my smart searching skills to find information about the game I chose which is Ki o Rahi. Finding information about this game was fun. I had to find two rules in the game and the purpose of this game. So rule number one is if the ball goes out of the circle that last team that had the ball MUST hand the ball over to the other team. Rule number two is that players can NOT enter Te Ara unless they are Kio ma, Kiatiaki or the guardians. The goal for taniwha the team is to use the ball/ki to hit the tupu. Kioma's team goal is to rip the tag or tackle them in the appropriate area.

New Zealand Waita - Activity #1 day #4

Today I have completed activity #1 for day 4#. I had to find a New Zealand Maori Waiti song. The song I chose was 'Aotearoa'. The reason why I chose this song is because it was shot he in New Zealand and the lyrics in talk about how strong we New Zealanders are and we come from the land of god which is precisely New Zealand (Aotearoa). You will be able to listen to the song by clicking the video on the top.

Summer Learning Journey - Day #3 activity #2

Today for activity #2 day #3 we had to fill in the Pepeha which was hard but I finally got some finished. This was a bit hard to understand. But at least go some bits done.

Day #3 activity #1 - Summer Learning Journey

Image result for small family and big family

Being in a large family is kinda great because you have more kids/people to play with and talk to plus you can enjoy a lot of deserts but the bad thing about having a big/large family is when you want to go somewhere with your family but don't have enough money to pay for everyone! so one or two people are going to have to stay back at home and watch TV. I think I would have a small family because you might not even have enough money to buy Christmas gifts/presents for everyone so I would probably stick to a small family.

Summer Learning Journey - Day #2 BONUS activity

My favourite food is the McFlurry (bubblegum squash) from Macas because I enjoy the sweetness and the soft  marshmallows. Eating this reminds me of chewing bubblegum while having the melting marshmellows in your mouth. I would prefer eating this rather than normal ice cream in a cone.
Here is a diffrent recipe to make an oreo McFlurry:
Add 1/4 cup of the Oreos, ice cream, milk and creamer into a blender. Blend on low until smooth. Remove from the blender and stir in the remaining cookies. Pour the mixture into a glass and garnish with M&M's and Oreos

Summer Learning Journey Day 2 activity 2

For this summer learning activity I have to draw myself doing my dream job. I chose to draw myself as a singer because singing means a lot to me and preforming in front of an audience. The main reason I chose to become a singer for my dream job is because its my passion that I use a lot around my house when i'm doing choirs and when i'm bored.

Day #2 activity #1 - Summer Learning Journey

In the 1800s, most Māori lived in villages called pa. Each village had many buildings. A traditional wharepuni had a thatched roof and walls made of timber, fern, rushes and bark. Look at the picture below of a traditional wharepuni. Does it look like your house?

This wharepuni looks nothing like my house because my house doesn't have any Maori patterns on it and definitely isn't made out of timber, fern, rushes and bark. But we do welcome guests such as family members and friends. The Maori people living in the wharepui do welcome new guest, family and friends too! maybe thats the most common thing about my house and the wharepuni.

Summer Learning Journey Bonus Activity - The First Settlers

People in Aotearoa/New Zealand still use waka but don't use them to transport from country to country instead they use them for special Maori events and sporting cometitions like Waka Ama. but both boys and girls compete in Waka Ama boat racing.

Summer Learning Journey day #1 activity #2 - The First Settlers

Maybe the first settlers were brave enough to leave their homeland and be in search of another island. Using the waka/voyaging canoe they managed to arrive in an island which is not far from their homeland (Polynesia). They named the island.

If that were me I would obviously feel scared, nervous and confused. Being on a waka/voyaging canoe for that long could be dangerous and you never know what sea creature might be on to you like a giant octopus or shark if so I would jump into the water and pretend that i'm dead and they will hopefully swim away (maybe?). but being in a waka/voyaging canoe for that long wou
ld make me feel sea sick and scared.

Year 7 Speeches - My Speech For Sports Leader

Hi my name is Viva,
I think I would make a great sports leader because I am active, respectful and encouraging. The main reason I chose to be the sports leader for 2018 is because I love talking and sharing exciting news about sports, sports has been my buddy ever since I was a little girl. People said that “whatever sports you try out you will never make it into the finals” but I said to myself that “you'll never know until you try!” So I just ignored everything they had said and carried on playing sports! They all ended up with nothing to do but put people down. That’s why I’m here to tell you that you’ll never know until you try! So please
VOTE for me to be your sports leader for 2018. Thank you for listening and don’t forget that “you’ll never know until you try!”.

Today I have said my speech in front of the whole class, I was nervous when I first said "Hi". I felt like I was going to drop the microphone. At the end of the speech I stopped feeling nervous and sat down with the people that have finished their speech. I was revealed when I was finished saying my speech. But anyways as it says in my speech "you'll never know until you try" I kept saying it over and over again on the way back to class. I found it very interesting that Shakaia (my class mate) was the only one that was in for manaiakalani leader!

Google Games

Today I have found that there was a google game made from scratch. The game includes code blocks. Using the code blocks you can make the rabbit move sideways, forwards and backwards to collect as many carrots as you can. This game is very similar to my games that I played called Moana. Hope you enjoy playing the google and Moana game!...

Summer Learning Journey day 1#

Today I have completed day 1's activity (called The First Settlers). It talks about the first person that had arrived in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and how he got to Aotearoa (New Zealand). Did you know that Kupe the first person to arrive in New Zealand came from Polynesia?

Motivation

Today we have worked collaboratively to define the word motivation and how you can motivate someone. We were talking about this because next year our year 7's will be our school leaders and by that we'll need to learn how to help other and encourage them to keep trying instead of telling them the answer. Then we were split into groups of 4-5. We were asked to come up with a play to show the audience what motivation is and to always encourage someone by helping and giving them enough information to work out the answer.

The House Of Windsor

Today my group (Mishaan, Jay don, Brooklyn and I) have worked collaboratively to complete the House Of Windsor (Royal family of Great Britain). We all had fun creating and learning about the royal family of Great Britain.

There were only 2 groups that won the prize which had a little emoji on it, our group was one level close to winning but unfortunately lost. We were all given little cars (my one was green). I had loads of fun after the session and we all headed out and said "thank you for having us".

Fire Safety

As part of our inquiry we walked up to the Mt Wellington/Panmure fire station to take a look at the tools and to talk about what they do. Norman was the man that was introducing us to the tools. We all sat down on the concrete to watch them cut the roof of and take all the doors off. I found quite noisy and fun.

Holiday Blogging Challenge Day 3# BONUS activity

Today I have finally completed day 3#'s BONUS activity!. I went on the Kelly Tarltons site and used my smart researching skills to find all of the information. This task wasn't that long!  but the only thing I got stuck on was finding the pictures! This was fun. School Production

Yesterday (Wednesday 27th of September), we all gathered around in the hall with our friends and families. Staying Alive went on stage first for their dance, After that I See Red walked onto the stage and started doing their dancing, we finally walked onto the stage happily and excited. When the song started we all started at the same time. When it became Fraidoons and my turn cartwheeling on stage. I felt a little bit nervous when I ran up to cartwheel. At the end of our dance my brothers class went on stage with their fancy clothing and started dancing. I started cheering on their dance group until they had finished. When the pacifica group jumped on stage I carried on cheering on for my friends just like I did for my brothers dance group. At the end of the production (celebrating the school ages) we all quickly ran to our parents and started talking about the whole production over and over again. The production was a very fun idea that the staff came up with. Thank you to my two teachers and the staff for organizing everything for the whole school and the parents that have come.

Today I have finished my scale drawing. The picture that I chose to draw was Twilight (the my little pony character). I have enjoyed this very much. I found this a little bit hard but mostly easy. This took me 4 weeks to finish because I was still stuck on my grids, you probably can't see my grids that much because of the purple I chose for the background. The name plate wasn't that hard to do.

Kiwi Can Session

Today we had our Kiwi Can session with Mr Malu and Mrs Latoia. We talked about taking risks. The word risk defines the word chance. Our warm up game was called  Bip Bop Bounce. We had to split up into two group so the boys had their own circle and the girls had their own.  The  rules for this game is that if the person in the middle of the circle  said to any person in the circle "bip bop bounce"... then that person has to say "bang" before that person ever said "bounce" to stay safe from loosing. The other warm up game was called Hand Soccer. This game was very fun and hard at the same time because you had to use you hand to touch or hit the ball and also trying to hit the ball into the goal was harder than I thought! because there were a whole lot of people in the way. These activities were just like excising and they were fun.

Learning To Use Synonyms

This morning Mrs Anderson's writing group created a poster showing examples of synonyms. A synonym is a word meaning the same but a more powerful word than the boring word that everyone uses.  I also found out that it was hard using new words that I didn't know of and how to spell. We used google dictionary to find these words. Using new words were better and it made the sentence more powerful. This was a very fun activity trying to find another word meaning the same but more powerful and a word that we didn't know of.

Read Theory

This morning I did read theory. When I log on and answer questions my knowledge starts grows even more bigger than it was before and I learn about things that I didn't know of. It's helped me know how to comprehend texts and it even helps me with my vocabulary. Read theory helps me improve my reading.

Dance Practice

Today and yesterday we practiced our dance for the production at the end of the term. We were split in to three groups. The songs we did were Footloose, I see red and Staying alive. I was put in the Footloose group. We started off slowly, then practiced doing it super fast because the song had a fast beat. We all tried our hardest to do the dance super fast. When we finished, our teachers  called us down to reveal our dances to the class. We tried this very fast, twice. When we finished revealing our fast dance we got a round of  applause. We quickly sat down and carried on watching other peoples dances. This was a rewindable activity because we were able to go back to the video from yesterday to help us today.

The Diffrence Between 'A' And 'An'

Today we were learning when to use 'A' and when to use 'An' before a word. If a word begins with a vowel which is A-E-I-O-U or silent 'H' (Eg; Hour or Honor), we use 'an'. We use  the letter 'A' for all other words except for the letters in the vowels. The photo shows the sentences we wrote to practice using the letter 'A' and the word 'An'.

Key words from the text

Mirror

Arena

Fight gladiator

Fight lion

Coin

Shield

What happened in the beginning?
Scott looked in the old mirror. Someone looked back at him. The little boy in the old mirror looked a bit similar to Scott. “Come on,” cried the boy, “Or we’ll be late,”. Scott took one step forward and he felt himself getting sucked into the mirror. Scott looked around in a strange way. He was unbelievably in a humongous arena. There he was in front of a tall man. The man walked towards him and gave him his shield, sword and helmet. Right there in front of him was a weird looking man wearing such strange clothes. The man ran up to Scott with his sword and tried to cut off Scott's little head covered with blond hair. Scott stode up for himself he ran up close to the weird looking gladiator and tried to stab him with his sword, but he had missed because the sword was too heavy. He’d dropped the sword and landed on the gladiators biggest toe. The man started shouting and hopping around, suddenly his helmet slammed shut! The humongous gladiator ran out of the arena and screamed “Ouuuuuuuchhhh!”

What happened in the middle?
Next came the lion who stared at the boy. The lion started snapping at the boy and ran after him. Scott reached out to scare the lion. As he scared the lion the lion ran out of the arena. The emperor's flicked a coin to Scott.

What happened at the end?
As Scott took his armor of the sunlight made the shield gleam like the old mirror did. As he saw his reflection, he felt himself getting sucked into the shield. And back into his room he went. Scott looked into the mirror again and saw nothing but himself.

Key words from the text

SCUBA diving

Searching for Atlantis

Spooky

Museum

Sank

Lived underwater

Diving again

Eel

Strange Arch, stone walls, statues

Stone head
Carla’s arm

Everything disappeared

What happened in the beginning?
Dad, Carla and Rob helped Dad get ready for  SCUBA diving. Dad was going to search for the lost city of Atlantis. “Can we dive with you?” Asked Rob. “Ok” cried Dad.  “But you must stay close to me”. They searched and searched but there was no sign of the lost city of Atlantis. When they got back to the boat Rob said to Carla “wasn’t it spooky down there? I thought someone was following us.” “You’re just chicken,” cried Carla. “I wasn’t scared at all,”. Carla and Rob wanted to find out about Atlantis. “Go to the Museum in the town” said Dad “and ask someone there.”
Carla and Rob went to the Museum. “Can you tell us the legend of the lost city of Atlantis?” cried Carla. The man said that Atlantis was once on land but the people of the city were bad. Their god made a huge earthquake and the city sank under the sea. “Did all the people drown?” asked Carla. “No” said the man. “The legend says they lived on in their underwater city but sometimes they come up to the town. They are strange people with gills on their necks, just like fish. But beware, bad things happened to people who search for Atlantis!”

What happened in the middle?
“That was a spooky story,” said Rob. “Maybe it’s not safe to dive.” “I’m not scared,” said Carla. “It’s just a story!”. Suddenly Rob grabbed her arm. “Look at that strange women. Maybe she’s from the lost city and she’s got that scarf to hide the gills on her neck!” “Rubbish!”  cried Carla. They went back to find Dad. He was getting ready to dive again. “I’ll come with you,” said Carla. “But Rob thinks the stories about Atlantis are true and he’s scared. “I’m not scared. I’ll come too!” shouted Rob.
They dived again.

What happened at the end?
This time Rob saw an eel coming towards him. Rob looked at Carla and waved at her. The eel snapped at her. She swam as fast as she could to get away from the eel. When the eel swam away they saw strange buildings, statues, Arches and stone walls. “I think this is the lost city!” cried Rob. Carla and Rob looked up they saw a big stone head. When the stone head came sinking down it had hit Carla’s arm. They swam up to the boat. Carla and Rob had explained everything to Dad. Dad had said “Stay on the boat i’ll dive to see if it really is,” When Dad had dived he had seen nothing. The lost city of Atlantis has disappeared.
