Adjectives, Adverbs and nouns

This week  for writing Joel and I created a character description using adjectives and nouns. We all worked together to highlight nouns, adjectives and adverbs (action words). My favorite adjective word is 'suspicious'. I learnt that a 'noun' is a name of something, somewhere and someone. An 'adverb' is an action word or doing word. Finally an adjective is a describing word. The adjective describes the noun.

An Example:
E.g 1: The girl ran to her mother - One with the noun only.
E.g 2: The girl ran quickly to her mother - This example has an adjective and a noun
E.g 3: The girl ran quickly looking suspicious to her mother - This example includes an adjective and noun...

2 Words 1 minute - Winter Olympics

Equipment
Respect…

This year the winter Olympics was held in Pyeongchang which is in south Korea.
This happened in February the 9th to February the 25th. There were teams
contributing in this event from other countries. They were showing respect,
excellence and good sportsmanship. There were lot of teams wearing equipment for many
different types of winter sports. Most of the sport were on ice and snow. I saw that there
was lot of practice put into the sport. The countries taking part in this event were
Canada, China, Africa, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Russia including New Zealand and
other countries coming to compete. The theme was passion connected. There were
winners and there were athletes losing. Each team tried hard and put in lots of effort.
There was lots cheering and enthusiasm from the audience. The sports that was played was
ice hockey, figure skating, the luge, skiing, freestyle skiing, snowboarding and the skeleton.
My favorite sports that  was played were figure skating and ice hockey. My least favorite sport
(because it is dangerous looking) was the luge…

179 words written down...

Today we used the ‘2 words 1 minute’ challenge to write a description about the Winter Olympics. After talking in pairs about the things we knew about the winter Olympics we created a list of words (vocabulary) that would help us write our description. We chose the words ‘equipment’ and ‘respect’ to help us think about what we were going to write.

We talked about ideas with a partner, then we had 1 minute to put those ideas into sentences.
We had to try our best to use all the words on our vocab list. After the minute was up we had 2 minutes
to reread what we had written and make changes if anything didn’t make sense or if we had words
and punctuation in the wrong place. When we finished checking we had 2 more minutes to carry
on writing our descriptions.

The highlighted words are the words I used from my word list. I did well in making sure my sentences made sense. I need to remember to focus on using the words on the list that describes the Pyeong Chang Olympics.

Chinese New Year Explanation

Chinese New Year is special to the Chinese culture because everyone comes
together to celebrate and spend time with each other. Each year is named
after an animal. This year is the year of the dog. The dog represents
responsibility and seriousness.

Chinese New Year is when all the families come together as one. They make
egg rolls, shrimp and noodles. In China the egg rolls represent the bars of
gold, the shrimp represent the happiness and the noodles represent long life
(if the noodle is long that means you will have a long life but if you cut it
you will have a short life). During this festival people give
Hong Bao to children and unmarried adults. In this red envelope there is
money to symbolize good luck and wealth.

People around the world celebrate Chinese New Year on the first
new moon of the year (which lasts for 15 days). On the last day they
light their lanterns to remember the ones who have passed on and to keep the
bad spirits away.

Each year we celebrate one of the 12 animals of the Chinese New Year.
There are 12 animals because the Jade Emperor didn’t know which animal to
choose so he set a race to see which order the years would be celebrated in.
This year we’re going to be celebrating the year of the earth dog. If there is a
person born in 2018 he/she might have the personality of an earth
dog, eg: would be responsible and serious.

Chinese New Year brings people together. They decorate their houses in red
and gold, light fires, let of fireworks and wear red to continue to keep Nian,
the monster away.

Yesterday we were learning about how people celebrate the Chinese New Year. As Magenta and I are in different writing groups we both worked together to write the explanation. We got a piece of paper and vivid to write down some ideas and notes about the Chinese New Year. What we learnt was the greeting "Kung Hei Fat Choi and there was a dragon called Nien who attacked the village and scared all the people and animals, the came a wise man called the Jade Emperor. He told the small village the dragons weaknesses. They were loud music, fire, fire works and the colours of red and gold.

Stretching Sentences Using The Five W's

Today Ms. Anderson's writing groups created a google slide. We had to use the 5 W's to stretch the sentence. By using the 5 W's we all managed to stretch the sentence (make the sentence bigger and bigger).

Archery

                                                                         Archery

As I picked my bow up I felt scared and frustrated straight away. I couldn’t believe I was actually holding in my little sweaty hands. I took one step forward and for some reason one leg fell out of place while I was trying to aim and “Zoom!”  The arrow raced straight out of the bow and straight into the black stripes. “10 points! To the Target Hunters!” Arti shouted with excitement as she raced off with Jericho.
“Begin!” Arti cried. I got a fright and shot the white stripes! “Walk and get your arrows,” was our next instruction. As everyone took an arrow and started shooting I whispered to myself, “Target Hunters you can do this!” I began gazing at the arrows as they zoomed across to the target. Everyone tried so hard that they forget what to do!

Next we sat down and before anyone talked I took a deep gulp and stared at the flying kiwi people, “We won!” shouted Zane in Ofa’s ear. They began to argue until Ofa answered Zane back and grinned, “No we won!” The next two people walked up and picked their arrows up and began firing I began cheering quietly until…”Hey! How many points do we have?” Ma’ata shouted excitedly.

This game reminds me of the movie Hunger Games. As I tiptoed across the humongous mat I was practicing how to hold the bow and how to put the arrow in place. Next up was me again. I took a deep breath and fired…
“No!” Ofa cried loudly. He distracted me by being so loud which annoyed me! It was about to hit the bullseye but instead I fired to the muddy ground. “I don’t really care if we lose now,” I mumbled talking  to myself. My heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest.
After that I called Zahra over. Zahra didn’t hear me until someone shouted over my voice she looked over to that person very scared and horrified. I ignored it and politely asked  Ma’ata for the camera. I was so excited I ripped it out of her hands and distracted others by taking photos of them.
Ugh!” Affonso cried with horror.

At the end of the game Arti called us over to listen to how many points we had scored. Zane's team had more than three hundred and Ofa’s team had fifty points, so Zane's team won as they had more points. Before anyone could speak Ofa took a deep breath and shouted at Zane with all his might. Then Jericho started talking. As everyone paused to hear someone else speak they all began to let their thoughts out! The noise was crazy! We began packing up and Ofa was complaining all the way to the back deck at camp….

Today write a recount about what we did at camp. The activity I have written about was archery> The hard part of this recount was remembering to use past tense as it shows that I had to write about what had all ready happened at camp.

Because....
She? Or He? Might think they are wasting time?
Or The might Be Complaining?

One day a family went out for a hike their names are johnny, mitchell, sammy,Molly and finally the oldest Marryyan… they went for a hike  in the forest.
They stopped at a cave and checked if their was anyone inside. “No one is inside” said Their father. Then their father said come on! “No one is inside!” “Why don’t we rest here for the night!” their mother cried “okay!” everyone said… But as they went to sleep... They could hear someone Whispering! The answered who’s there!
It said To the  family “you must leave! Immediately! “And why is that?” the oldest Daughter cried…“beacause!”.....
You're about to meet the Grizzly bear that lives in this cave! The youngest son felt that fur that they’ve been lying on! There was wet  yuck and mucky seliver! Dripping on the family’s head! And Shoulders! “The Grizzly bear!” “Ahh!” the family shouted let’s get out of here! “Run Run Run!” the second oldest daughter  cried! “That whispering person or man! Which sounded like a man was right!” the youngest daughter said...as they ran as fast as they can “get in the on your bikes! And ride as fast as you can!” Their mother crieded… and they rode of knowing without knowing that the bear that owned the cave was actually a cave man! Stuck inside a costume! Which was a long story! “All I wanted was Friends! And needed help!. While the family was riding with wet seliver! On them all… they Just figured out that the wet  seliver was actually tears!”wow!” it wasn’t actually a Person  Why don’t we go back if he or her needs help! Okay! The family went  back! To the cave and helped the poor old cave man! They took the costume off of him and he was happy as a donkey that could stand up and jump… Their mother offered him to stay with them!
