Winter Learning Journey

Today Rachel from Auckland University came to visit our school. She Gave out some prizes and certificates to the people who joined and blogged on the winter learning journey website. Nearly everyone in our class has been given a certificate and prize. I would like to give a big thank you to those who took part in the winter learning journey and a  big thank you to Rachel who has runned the winter learning journey for months.

Keep New Zealand Beautiful! (Winter Learning Journey Activity)

Dawn breaks on Day #7 – the final day of my Great Kiwi Road Trip. I wake up early, ready to make the long trek back to Auckland. Along the way, Curious Kiwi stops at two beautiful places, Taupo and Rotorua, for you to get out and walk around.

List of what I can do to keep my neighbourhood beautiful;

  • Pick up any rubbish that is on the ground even though it isn't mine
  • Make sure eveyone doesn't throw their rubbish on the ground
  • Help younger children understand why it is important to not throw any rubbish on the ground by creating posters/signs that have pictures of children putting rubbish into the bin.

Day #4 Swimming With The Sharks (The Winter Learning Journey Activity)

For this Winter learning Journey  activity I will pretend that by the end of day #3, I will have seen a lot of the north island of  New Zealand. I have enjoyed it and I am excited for the next phase of my journey-the ferry trip across the Cook Strait from the bottom of the north island to the top of the south island. I will be spending the next 2 days exploring the south island before I head back up to Auckland, via Wellington (the capital of New Zealand).

Why We Have To Ban Fishermen From Fishing At Farewell Spit;

Over these past few months  fishermen have caught dolphins in  humungous nets while fishing in the Farewell spit oceans. I think that we should ban fishermen from fishing at Farewell spit because of what has happened to dolphins and other types of fishes.

The Winter learning journey

For the winter learning journey activity,
I have to imagine that I will start the day by traveling 63km north up state high way 1 from Dunedin to a place called "Shag Point". I have to write a short poem about native Aotearoa to see what would happen next.
Being The First To Arrive In New Zealand (poem);

As Suspicious I was...
I quickly took my life jacket of.
I was wondering around trying to find help
but  no one seemed care so I  quickly took cover and tried to find my friends but I could find them because I was the only person there out of all of my friends.
As it started to rain I found a piece of shelter.
No one seemed to notice me.
As cold as I was lying on a piece of cardboard waiting patiently for someone to help until one of my friends finally arrived. As happy I was standing under the piece of shelter with my friends.
