Vital Sleeping - Group A

Why is sleep important? well, group A have the answer to that. Together in our group created a presentation that gives a clear explanation of why sleep is so important, how long do we humans need to sleep, why sleeping is healthy and how technology or devices affect our sleep patterns. Savelina and I have worked on the final/last slide to inform you about the 3 main or vital reasons why people/children might not get the same amount of sleep as the people with roofs over their heads! But... before all of this, our group took a look at pictures that involve the homes of the people that can or cannot sleep.

Colloquialism and Slang - Definitions and examples

Today for reading our group (Waiheke) were focused on reading a book called 'The Fall'... The book talked about a young boy called Zac. His personality is very similar to mine. He is an impatient, risk taking, competitive, no brainier and doesn't think before he acts. After that we created a DLO telling and giving examples so that the reader isn't stuck on trying their best to understand what it means/defines. I worked with Nyjah, Fui, Joshua W and Joseph.

The Bulford Kiwi

This is the Bulford kiwi. This kiwi is made up of white chalk and was made or created by a number of soldiers. A soldier called Harry was one of the soldiers who made the Buford kiwi. This kiwi was made in 1919 in England, above the military town of Buford on Salisbury.

Evaluating

Today our task for reading was to create a DLO about a book called Harry's War. This book is about a man called Harry who during the war is back a the farm looking after the animals. A man comes to the farm and tells him that he is expected at war. He takes a long journey to the Feather - son War Camp to train so he could have the ability to survive in the war. They travel to England using a sailing boat. When the troop or soldiers get there the war is over because the other troop or soldiers that they were fighting didn't make it there. So that men't that they'd won but didn't do anything to win. Fruistraighted the soldiers were the captain of the troop kept them busy by getting them to build the Bulford kiwi. This kiwi can be found in England, on Beacon Hill, above the military town of Buford on Salisbury.

The Unfinished Drink

This poem is about a soldier who lost his life while fighting in the war and talks about how he didn't return home to his family. His name was La tour mollet or even Ted he was 35 years old when he had fallen or lost his life. Up above there is a photo of him, the train the army set off on and the bottle of beer he didn't get to finish. The reason why he didn't get to finish his drink was because he went to war at 7:00 am in the morning. The name of his drink was ballens ale. Until then not that many soldier returned to see their families. He was one of the soldiers that didn't return. That men't he didn't return to finish of his drink. Now his drink still remains unfinished. The drink represent him and give a lot of memories. At the end of the story I felt sad and happy at the same time. The bright side was that the bottle beer still remains these days. And the down side is that he lost his life fighting in the war.

Read Theory

This morning I did read theory. When I log on and answer questions my knowledge starts grows even more bigger than it was before and I learn about things that I didn't know of. It's helped me know how to comprehend texts and it even helps me with my vocabulary. Read theory helps me improve my reading.

Fight gladiator

Fight lion

What happened in the beginning?
Scott looked in the old mirror. Someone looked back at him. The little boy in the old mirror looked a bit similar to Scott. “Come on,” cried the boy, “Or we’ll be late,”. Scott took one step forward and he felt himself getting sucked into the mirror. Scott looked around in a strange way. He was unbelievably in a humongous arena. There he was in front of a tall man. The man walked towards him and gave him his shield, sword and helmet. Right there in front of him was a weird looking man wearing such strange clothes. The man ran up to Scott with his sword and tried to cut off Scott's little head covered with blond hair. Scott stode up for himself he ran up close to the weird looking gladiator and tried to stab him with his sword, but he had missed because the sword was too heavy. He’d dropped the sword and landed on the gladiators biggest toe. The man started shouting and hopping around, suddenly his helmet slammed shut! The humongous gladiator ran out of the arena and screamed “Ouuuuuuuchhhh!”

What happened in the middle?
Next came the lion who stared at the boy. The lion started snapping at the boy and ran after him. Scott reached out to scare the lion. As he scared the lion the lion ran out of the arena. The emperor's flicked a coin to Scott.

What happened at the end?
As Scott took his armor of the sunlight made the shield gleam like the old mirror did. As he saw his reflection, he felt himself getting sucked into the shield. And back into his room he went. Scott looked into the mirror again and saw nothing but himself.

Eel

Strange Arch, stone walls, statues

Stone head
Carla’s arm

Everything disappeared

What happened in the beginning?
Dad, Carla and Rob helped Dad get ready for  SCUBA diving. Dad was going to search for the lost city of Atlantis. “Can we dive with you?” Asked Rob. “Ok” cried Dad.  “But you must stay close to me”. They searched and searched but there was no sign of the lost city of Atlantis. When they got back to the boat Rob said to Carla “wasn’t it spooky down there? I thought someone was following us.” “You’re just chicken,” cried Carla. “I wasn’t scared at all,”. Carla and Rob wanted to find out about Atlantis. “Go to the Museum in the town” said Dad “and ask someone there.”
Carla and Rob went to the Museum. “Can you tell us the legend of the lost city of Atlantis?” cried Carla. The man said that Atlantis was once on land but the people of the city were bad. Their god made a huge earthquake and the city sank under the sea. “Did all the people drown?” asked Carla. “No” said the man. “The legend says they lived on in their underwater city but sometimes they come up to the town. They are strange people with gills on their necks, just like fish. But beware, bad things happened to people who search for Atlantis!”

What happened in the middle?
“That was a spooky story,” said Rob. “Maybe it’s not safe to dive.” “I’m not scared,” said Carla. “It’s just a story!”. Suddenly Rob grabbed her arm. “Look at that strange women. Maybe she’s from the lost city and she’s got that scarf to hide the gills on her neck!” “Rubbish!”  cried Carla. They went back to find Dad. He was getting ready to dive again. “I’ll come with you,” said Carla. “But Rob thinks the stories about Atlantis are true and he’s scared. “I’m not scared. I’ll come too!” shouted Rob.
They dived again.

What happened at the end?
This time Rob saw an eel coming towards him. Rob looked at Carla and waved at her. The eel snapped at her. She swam as fast as she could to get away from the eel. When the eel swam away they saw strange buildings, statues, Arches and stone walls. “I think this is the lost city!” cried Rob. Carla and Rob looked up they saw a big stone head. When the stone head came sinking down it had hit Carla’s arm. They swam up to the boat. Carla and Rob had explained everything to Dad. Dad had said “Stay on the boat i’ll dive to see if it really is,” When Dad had dived he had seen nothing. The lost city of Atlantis has disappeared.
